Things you may be wondering about
Here is some important information about NATPARA you should know before starting treatment
Will my insurance cover NATPARA?
Every person’s insurance coverage is different. OnePath may be able to help. OnePath will facilitate a benefits investigation to determine your coverage.
Why does NATPARA have a warning about bone cancer?
During animal drug testing, NATPARA caused some rats to develop a bone cancer called osteosarcoma. It is not known if people who take NATPARA will have a higher chance of getting osteosarcoma. Tell your doctor right away if you have pain in any areas of your body that does not go away, or any new or unusual lumps or swelling under your skin that is tender to touch. These are some of the signs and symptoms of osteosarcoma and your doctor may need to do further tests.
Do I need to have any blood tests before I begin taking NATPARA?
Yes. Before you can begin treatment, you need to have a blood test to check the levels of calcium and vitamin D in your blood.
Please ensure you do this prior to your first Nurse Educator visit.
How will I get NATPARA?
NATPARA is only available through the NATPARA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) Program. The purpose of the NATPARA REMS Program is to inform patients about the potential risk of osteosarcoma associated with the use of NATPARA.
